Many different conditions may warrant after-hours care. Examples include high fever, serious diarrhea or vomiting, ear or throat pain, suspected broken bones, head injury, or if your child is suffering and in pain. A full list of the conditions commonly seen at After Hours Kids can be found on their website. After Hours Kids is also available to those who wish to see a provider at a more convenient time for non-urgent illnesses such as pink eye, mild coughs, ear infections, etc.
There are certain emergencies, such as ingestion of foreign bodies, that should be seen at Dell Children’s Emergency Room, rather than at After Hours Kids. Contact our nurse on call if you are unsure what the right course of action is for your child. If you believe it is a life threatening emergency, please call 911.
These tests include rapid flu tests, rapid strep tests, and urinalysis. The lab is also on-site, which means all results come back quickly and results are received before going home
After-hours care allows working parents the ability to have their child evaluated without taking time off work It is especially convenient for busy parents who have more than one child. The advanced practice providers at After Hours Kids Clinic are all certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. Many urgent care clinics see children; however, often, their providers are not specialized in pediatric care. The Advanced Practice Providers work closely with the physicians at Pediatric Associates of Austin and share the same medical records, helping to assure continuity of care.
